Topic: Self Evaluation [Tuesday, 4th April 2017]
Let us examine ourselves instead, and let us repent and turn again to the Lord. Lamentations 3:40 TLB
To evaluate means to determine the significance, worth or condition of a thing, usually by careful appraisal and study. It is very key as sons and daughters of Christ that we determine the condition of our walk with Christ. And we must constantly ask ourselves how has our walk with God been? This is done, in a bid to determine the quality of our Christian life and how much of God’s glory we are reflecting. We must also evaluate if there are things that are of the old life that we are still exhibiting even as a son or daughter of Christ, so we could expunge them. Our anchor scripture stresses the need for continual examination of ourselves.
Our walk with God demands diligence, zeal, confidence, humility, obedience and faith. Our walk with God equally demands carefulness and time to time check up. The need to examine ourselves comes up because sin, which hinders the quality of our life and impedes the exhibition of God’s glory in and through us, looks so tiny and harmless in the eyes but it is very dangerous. We cannot afford to lose our focus.
Man is naturally more sensual than spiritual; his motives and actions can easily change – stressing the need for constant self-examination. Examine yourself to see if there is any bitterness, unforgiveness, ungodly thoughts which can stall the expression of the God-life in and through you. Life is an examination and repentance is a daily necessity, especially when we discover deformities in our character. 2 Corinthians 13:5 says, “examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
Keep winning daily
Lord help me to always evaluate my walk with You. I trust in You to keep me from falling through Your grace that is sufficient in all things, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
