Topic: God Is Patient [Sunday, 11th June 2017]
…for God is love. 1 John 4:8
Even though we read and teach 1 Corinthians 13 from the perspective of us exhibiting the qualities of love outlined in that scripture, it will be nice for us to look at these qualities from another perspective, and that is from God. God, according to scriptures, is love. So when scriptures say in 1 Corinthians 13 that “Love is…..” It’s actually saying that “God is…” If love is patient, then God is patient.
God is patient indeed. His patience is aptly stated in 2 Peter 3:9 – “the Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” God is patiently waiting for so many people to turn to Him. Even when they continually reject the life His grace has provided, He does not give up on them. He is patiently waiting. And over the years, this patience have yielded great results of men who have gone on to turn many to the Lord. Apostle Paul is a classic example.
Even for us, who are alive in Him, His patience is evident. When we mess up and go against His word and will, He doesn’t just turn against us and make us suffer His wrath. Instead, patiently, through the word of His grace, He teaches us and corrects us in love. Patiently, He forms His characters in us and helps us to exhibit them. God is patient, in spite of us repeating our flaws multiple times, even after correcting us each time. Love is patient, and so is God. For in His love, He exercises patience. Be patient like God.
Keep winning daily.
Dear Lord, thank You for Your patience towards me. In Your patience Lord, continue to teach me and equip me to act like You always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
