Some youths in Plateau state have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to save the state from the incessant attacks by herdsmen. The youths in an open letter to the president said over 100 people have been killed by herdsmen ravaging the state. They also alleged that while dozens have been injured, houses and properties have also been razed and looted during the herdsmen attacks in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa local government area of Plateau state.

The youths under the aegis of Plateau Youth G-17 Peace and Progressive Forum led by Dachung Bagos urged the president to give the needed attention to the killings in the state. Bagos warned that there has been breach of security and outbreak of violence in Bassa, Jos North, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos local government areas.

He said the attackers have sacked, harassed and killed many including women and children. “Ta’agbe village in Miango was attacked in which six people were killed in the night of Saturday, October 14, 2017 while 29 persons were killed and many injured in Nkiedonwhro, Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa LGA of Plateau State. Even as we are writing this, attacks are ongoing in some villages. “In Barkin Ladi, three persons including a former Head of Service to the Plateau State Government, a woman and a military man were killed last week in Wereh village, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State. People are constantly being harassed and attacked by gunmen despite the presence of military personnel in the villages.

“If the attackers can kill a military personnel, how safe are the innocent and harmless people?” the youths asked.

The president through the presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said the madness in the state should not be allowed to continue. Shehu said the president is devoted to the sanity of Nigeria’s unity as he encourages all citizens to live together in peace and harmony.
