‘Ugly’ Crocs make huge quarantine comeback: How to snap up a hot pair

0 37

Just like its sturdy rubber material, Crocs have managed to survive and thrive.

The proudly “ugly” utility shoe brand favored by everyone from Justin Bieber to your average home gardener expects to report a fourth-quarter revenue spike — from $407 to  $410 million — for 2020, Crocs announced this week. They project another “accelerated” growth bump of 25% in 2021.

“Amidst a global pandemic in 2020, we will deliver the strongest revenue in Crocs’ history,” CEO Andrew Rees said in a statement this week. “Our brand momentum is exceptional, and we anticipate another record year in 2021.”

Comfort was valued above all else this year, as working from home meant an emergence of sweatpants, pajamas and no-pants Zoom meetings.

Since the only excursion many have is to and from the mailbox, why shouldn’t the polarizing rubber clogs make a comeback?

Other classically “ugly” styles made a comeback in 2020, including but not limited to flared leggings, fuzzy bucket hats and denim-on-denim to name a few.

Despite their look, Crocs has been insanely successful in marketing to the next generation of fashion consumers — looking at you, Gen Z. Collaborations with celebs like Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Bad Bunny sell out within hours, if that.
